Rules

Who may enter

  • The Pendoring Awards are open to all areas of Brand Communication – including but not limited to advertising, PR, design, Architecture & interior Design, Live Events & Activations, Sponsorships, Digital Media, Social Media, Music Videos – and any area where a brand interacts with consumers.
  • Anyone involved in the creation, publishing or production of the work may submit an entry (including directly from the brand, agency or production company).
  • If multiple companies have worked on a project, they must agree in advance who will submit the entry and they must agree on how the credits will be completed. If an entry is received from more than one company, only the first entry will be accepted. No refunds will be given on duplicate entries.
  • All student work, created and submitted to a registered educational institution in South Africa, may be entered. Where possible, student work should be submitted by the School/ College/ University, rather than directly by the individual student.
  • All details and names should be provided correctly, as this information is used on certificates and in news releases.

Eligible Dates

  • All work must have been commercially published, announced or broadcast for the first time between 1 August 2016 and 31 July 2017 to a noteworthy audience in South Africa.
  • In the case of campaigns that straddle the eligibility period, for example, if two (2) parts were for instance published/broadcast before 1 August 2016 and three (3) parts thereafter, then the entire campaign will still be considered. However, if two (2) pieces were published before 31 July 2017 and the rest are planned to be published after 31 July 2017, then this cannot be entered.
  • Student work created during 2016 and up to 31 July 2017, may be entered.
  • Absolutely no work that has not yet been published, launched or aired will be accepted - and the onus is on the agency to ensure that all work entered meets these rules.

Judging and Awards

  • Work must be at least 70% in either Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa, isiNdebele, Siswati, Xitsonga, Venda, Setswana, Sepedi or Sesotho. Entries that aren’t 70% in either of these languages will automatically be disqualified.
  • The Prestige and Umpetha Award cannot be won by any Public Service and Charity entries or self-promotional work.
  • Agency in-house/self-promotional work will be awarded no higher than a Silver Pendoring.
NOTE: This only relates to agency self-promotional work. A brand may enter its own in-house work and this is NOT considered self-promotion (e.g. a car company may enter its own marketing programme).
EXAMPLE: A design agency designing its own logo is considered self-promotion.
  • The judging of the Pendoring Advertising Awards takes place at a time and place determined by the organisers. The judging panel consists of specialists from the profession.
  • No correspondence on the judging process or the adjudicators’ decisions will at any time be entered into.
  • Pendoring may contact the agency, brand, or anyone associated with the entry, during entry processing or during judging, should any questions arise related to the entry.
  • Pendoring will endeavour to move entries to more appropriate categories during entry processing and prior to judging. However it remains the responsibility of the entrant to submit their entry into the correct category and Pendoring will not be held responsible for entries submitted incorrectly. Entrants will be informed of any proposed changes to their entries. During judging the Jury are not allowed to move entries between categories.
  • Craft certificates and Craft Gold may be awarded in the Craft categories. Prize money for a Craft Gold is R3 000.

Entry credits

  • Please ensure that all your credits on the entry form are 100% correct.
  • These credits will be used on the awards evening exactly as you have entered them.

Entry Cancellation and Refunds

  • All requests to withdraw an entry must be made in writing.
  • Requests made prior to the Entry Deadline may be replaced with another entry.
  • Entries cancelled after the Entry Deadline may not be replaced.
  • No Refunds on Entries: Under no circumstances will refunds of any fees or costs relating to Entries or entry into the Awards be issued to Entrants. The fees paid for Entries are intended to cover the costs of administration, processing and judging the Entries and Awards.
  • Any Entries disqualified by the Pendoring will not be refunded. This includes duplicate entries and Entries that do not follow the specified rules.

Approval & Permissions

  • All Entries must be approved by the relevant client for whom they were produced and all necessary permissions must be obtained.
  • In particular, the client for whom the work was created must consent to entry of the relevant work into the Awards and for it to be used in accordance with the full terms and conditions of entry.
  • An Entry may not be entered if the work is subject to any agreements with third parties and/or other licenses and the necessary consents have not been obtained.

General

  • All work in all categories (excluding the category Original Afrikaans) can be in any of the non-English South African languages.
  • All entries may only be submitted once in the following three categories – Newspaper, Magazine and Poster. In other words, the same execution may not be entered in different categories.
  • All entries entered in the Communication Design category may not be re-entered in the Craft category specifically for Design.
  • Unless stipulated otherwise for a specific category, only single pieces may be entered. A new entry must be completed for each piece. For instance, three (3) independent posters for the same campaign may not be submitted as one (1) entry.

  • Each participant accepts full responsibility for his/her entry and indemnifies Pendoring and the organisers for any liability towards a third party.

  • No work created for Pendoring created in 2017 can be entered.
